The Aviation Paint Technician – Level 3 is a senior-level role responsible for performing advanced aircraft surface preparation, painting, and refinishing in compliance with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to mentor junior technicians while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced aircraft paint preparation, including stripping, sanding, masking, chemical treatment, and corrosion control
- Apply primers, topcoats, and specialty coatings using HVLP, electrostatic, and conventional spray methods
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings, technical data, paint manuals, and work instructions
- Ensure strict compliance with FAA regulations, environmental requirements, and safety procedures
- Conduct detailed inspections of completed paint work to ensure cosmetic and technical quality standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex paint defects such as fisheyes, orange peel, runs, and adhesion issues
- Properly mix, measure, and handle hazardous materials in accordance with MSDS and OSHA guidelines
- Lead and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 paint technicians; provide technical guidance and best practices
- Maintain accurate documentation, work logs, and quality records
- Coordinate with quality, engineering, and production teams to meet delivery schedules
