SUMMARY

Responsible for tool and cutter grinding to maintain production and tool making needs. Using manual machines (Universal, DoAll, ProMach) to re-sharpen drills, taps, broaches and custom carbide/HSS cutters. Assist tooling department in creating custom cutter features and reliefs. Performs surface grinding as needed to support tool & die development and maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

Set up and operate manual tools and cutter grinding machines. Including surface grinders, manual indexers, and wheel heads.

Re-sharpens production cutting tools using manual tool/cutter grinding machines. Develops and implements custom relief features and undercuts to assist in production and engineering tooling needs. Applies custom corner radius features to end mills and groove cutters.

Inspect and verify results using optical comparator, calipers, micrometers, indicators and angle plates.

Uses manual surface grinders to square and prep tool steel blocks for die and punch press applications.

Analyzes drawings and specifications to prep material for assembly and repair of metalworking dies, jigs, fixtures, hand tools.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

Support production requests for custom tool grinding solutions.

Read and interpret Engineering Drawings in English, including ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard.

Understanding of Trigonometry and shop math to apply to daily tasks such as determining angles, radiuses, and lengths.

Complies with all company safety rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree and/or Certificate in Machine Shop Technology or a Certification/Degree in a related field preferred. Five years of technical Tool Design Concept and Tool Cutter/Grinder experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to read and interpret engineering requirements, reference tables, specifications, standards, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Requires excellent math ability. Ability to apply concepts such as plane and solid geometry and trigonometry to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to visualize machining processes from drawings, sketches and CAD models.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve problems.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.25 to $28.75 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company&39;s medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
