The Technical Data Centre Support Technician promotes the use of the technical drawings / documents while maintaining, optimizing, and refining the content to facilitate the communication of clear, accurate and required information between the different units.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the production / reproduction, updating, consulting, archiving, and storage of engineering related technical drawings / documents, specifications, plans, standards, manuals, catalogues, reports, and photographs.

  • Maintains and updates various databases with the most current drawings and documents, makes same available to Service Delivery units.

  • Works with other TDC staff for editing, archiving, safeguarding, and distributing technical documents such as drawings, plans, standards, manuals, catalogues, and photographs.

  • With the assistance of Technical Data Centre Specialist, provides assistance and guidance to engineers, technologists and project managers in the preparation of contract specifications / internal policies and practices related to the production of project drawings as well as reporting initiatives.

  • Monitors contracts for delivery of drafting services.

  • Facilitates effective work schedules to ensure deliverables align with the organizational objectives.

  • Ensures compliance of Technical Data Centre documents with NAV CANADA standards and policies.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Successful completion of secondary school and an acceptable training program in CAD technology, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in CAD technology.

Experience:

  • Experience with NAV CANADA National Drafting standards for importing of professional drawings into the Electronic Data Management.

  • Experience in using CAD software, particularly AutoCAD.

  • Experience in the field of electronic & electro-mechanical drafting.

  • Experience using computer peripherals such as optical scanner, high technology printer, plotters, etc.

Knowledge:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of drafting and CAD technology utilized by the Company (i.e. AutoCAD)

  • Knowledge of computer systems and peripherals (i.e. plotters, scanners, memory devices)

  • Knowledge of machine shop procedures to provide assistance in creating production drawings.

  • Knowledge of symbols and technical terminology used in electro-mechanical drawings.

Abilities:

  • Proficiency in office software. (i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe, SharePoint, Oracle, etc.)

  • Ability to utilize a variety of high-end graphic and display software (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Inventor, Visio, Photoshop, etc.) in support of client requests.

  • Ability to estimate the time required to complete a specific task.

  • Ability to compile documents and ancillary data for drafting requests.

  • Ability to research many potential sources where the information could be stored.

Working conditions:

  • Hybrid: This position is based at Ottawa ANS and requires a minimum of one (1) day a week on-site.
