This role is responsible for integrating automation solutions and frameworks provided by the Air Canada’s Quality Management Office (QMO) into delivery pipelines, executing QA processes, and providing leadership and mentorship to delivery pods on all aspects of quality assurance.
The Software Developer Automation Tester will report to a QA Manager within Air Canada’s Quality Management Office, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide quality standards and governance.Responsibilities:
Integrate automation frameworks and tools developed by the Air Canada QMO & COE into project delivery teams and pipelines.Execute and enforce QA processes within delivery pods, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and best practices.Act as the QA SME within delivery pods, overseeing test planning, execution, defect management, and reporting.Customize and extend COE-provided automation solutions to meet specific application and platform needs.Collaborate with developers, test teams, and DevOps teams to embed automation into the software development lifecycle.Promote shift-left testing practices and early defect detection.Provide mentorship and guidance to delivery pods on QA strategy, automation usage, testing techniques, and quality metrics.Support CI/CD integration and continuous testing using enterprise-standard tools.Establish and monitor KPIs to measure automation adoption, test coverage, defect leakage, and overall quality effectiveness.Ensure compliance with internal QA governance, security & IT policies, and external regulatory standards.Ensure accessibility test coverage is included in QA plans and automation suites, in alignment with WCAG and Air Canada’s accessibility standards.Collaborate with accessibility specialists and developers to validate inclusive design and usability.Facilitate training sessions and workshops to build automation and QA capabilities across IT.Support test data management and environment setup for automated and manual test execution.Analyze test results and provide actionable insights to improve product quality and delivery confidence.Act as a liaison between delivery teams and the QMO to ensure feedback loops and continuous improvement.Participate in release readiness reviews and provide goo-go recommendations based on quality metrics and risk assessments.Provide regular updates and reporting to the QA Manager of the Quality Management Office on QA health, risks, accessibility coverage, and improvement opportunities.
Technical Requirements:Enterprise QA Platforms:Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Xray, ACATS (Air Canada Test Automation System), and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Automation Frameworks:Hands-on expertise in Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, and Gherkin-based BDD frameworks. Familiarity with Cursor IDE or similar AI-assisted automation tools.
Cloud Platforms:Proficiency in AWS and Azure cloud services, including Bedrock, OpenSearch, and VPC isolation. Experience with managed cloud services for scalability, security, and compliance.
Cross-Platform Testing:Ability to automate and execute tests across web, mobile, desktop, SAP, IVR, and API platforms. Use of BrowserStack or similar cloud execution platforms.
Accessibility & UX Testing:Use of accessibility testing tools & tools (axe-core, Lighthouse, Jaws, WAVE) and ensuring coverage for WCAG and Air Canada accessibility standards.
Non-Functional Testing:Experience in performance testing (JMeter, Gatling), security and vulnerability analysis, network simulation, and service virtualization. Diagnostics and monitoring using real-time logs and metrics.
Test Data Management & Data Quality: ExperienceExperience with test data management (TDM), data masking, anonymization, and compliance (GDPR, PCI). Integration with Delphix or similar TDM platforms.
AI & Agentic Frameworks: FamiliarityFamiliarity with AI-driven test case generation, defect management, root cause analysis, and self-healing automation. Understanding of LLMs, vector databases, and AI assurance models.
Reporting & Dashboarding:Ability to work with automated dashboards, monthly scorecards, and executive reporting tools.
QualificationsUniversity degree in related field (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology) Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in in software testing, automation, and QA leadership.Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or JavaScriptExperience defining automation strategies, setting KPIs, and driving continuous improvement.Proven experience in designing and implementing automation frameworks across multiple platforms (web, mobile, API).Passion for performance debugging and benchspaning.Experience working with remote & cross functional teamsStrong communication skills, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring experience.Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Qualifications: Certifications (Preferred): ISTQB, Agile/DevOps, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or automation and AI specific certifications.
