Job Description

 

The Academy Apprentice classification will perform academic tasks and tasks related to aircraft servicing, handling and maintenance. This job classification offers an opportunity to start a career in the aviation industry, without any formal trades education required as a prerequisite. The Academy Apprentice is eligible to receive a logbook and accumulate time towards eligibility of a Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence. After receiving adequate training, Academy Apprentices will be qualified to perform maintenance as per maintenance task completion records and record the details of the work in the applicable technical record while working with related technical documents.

This is a bargaining unit position and requires Controlled Goods Security Clearance, therefore only Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible.

Major Responsibilities & Duties

 

  • Participate in a combination of classroom learning and on the job training.
  • Perform aircraft maintenance work with the appropriate level of supervision once assessed as competent to perform the specific task.
  • Observe and adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete all tests, presentations, and other required evaluations.
  • Maintain a record/log as required.
  • Ensure all paperwork, documentation and reporting associated with any maintenance or a repair action is completed accurately and in accordance with applicable regulatory and company guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Core Skills
  • Good communication skills: fluency both in written and verbal English is mandatory.
  • Ability to perform basic and repetitive tasks.
  • Safe work practices and techniques.
Education

 

  • Intro to Aerospace Skilled Trades program or similar
  • Grade 12 Diploma
Experience

 

  • Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be capable of climbing ladders, work from heights and working in confined spaces
  • Must have basic computer usage skills and experience
  • A valid Driver’s license is considered an asset
  • Previous operating ground equipment experience is considered an asset
