Job Description SummaryThe NDT(non-destructive testing) Imaging and AI (Artificial Intelligence) Sub-Section Manager will lead a team of inspection and imaging experts focused on developing digitized inspection solutions for all modalities (CT, X-ray, Ultrasound, IR, Eddy Current, Visual and Metrology). In this role, you will grow a team with strong expertise in NDT applications and competencies in signal and image processing, advanced analytics, automation, data storage, NDT digital thread development and data evaluation productivity tools to best satisfy the needs of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality. Technologies may include automated / assisted defect recognition, advanced signal processing, machine learning / artificial intelligence algorithms, classical image processing and other deterministic methodologies.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement team charter/mission to align team to key priorities of the business across all NDT modalities and build the technical competencies in NDT imaging.
  • Establish a rapport with manufacturing shops in remaining compliant to current and developing inspection specifications. Help implement automated and assisted evaluation tools to drive productivity and robustness in our inspection processes.
  • Lead the efforts on digital inspection data movement and archival modernization (NDE digital thread), identifying IT infrastructure and software system requirements.
  • Drive collaboration and best practices across the business and inspection team with regards to identification, development, maturation, and industrialization of new inspection technology. Provide Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) process leadership.
  • Hire, build, and grow technical talent by providing mentoring, coaching, and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, and technicians.
  • Demonstrate project management skills and provide priority insight to the team. Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical and program requirements, schedules, and contract commitments.
  • Effectively communicate recommendations through the analysis and presentation of technical data using reports, records, and letters. Identify and procure funding to implement those commitments.
  • Responsible for execution of laboratory and field validation testing, inspection and data acquisition for use in the design and validation of products and services. Responsible for design and construction of test facilities, instrumentation systems and the development of test software
  • Manages a small to medium team of senior professionals as well as others. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial/Production Engineering/Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an engineering and/or relevant manufacturing position

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior experience in developing and leading inspection development across one or more modalities (Xray, CT, UT, EC, FPI, Visual, IR) including technology development and new inspection introductions into production.
  • Prior experience in Aviation manufacturing processes and materials, component manufacturing, Quality systems and APQP.
  • People leadership experience and/or Black belt.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large projects and lead teams. Track record of delivering results on programs.
  • Strong Supply Chain and Engineering network.
  • Project Management experience coordinating activities across large departments.
  • Ability to work with global, distributed teams to achieve results
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
