Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are now recruiting for a Document Control Manager to join our Engineering team where you’ll lead our Configuration and Change Management function. This role will be based primarily at our Bishops Cleeve site and include travel to Staverton.
Ontic is more than just a business, we’re a community of innovators who pride ourselves on fostering a culture where talent thrives, ideas flourish, and careers are built. Were committed to excellence, driving us to continuously improve and adapt, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of our industry.
The Role
As our Document Control Manager, you’ll lead the Configuration and Change Management team within Engineering, overseeing a group of eight talented professionals responsible for managing engineering data, documentation, and change control across Ontic’s aerospace programmes.
You’ll own the Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes, ensuring they are fully traceable, compliant, and embedded across the business. You’ll be accountable for maintaining product configuration data within Windchill (our PLM system) – ensuring all drawings, EBOMs, and MBOMs are accurately controlled, released, and accessible across engineering, production, and quality teams.
In addition to day-to-day management, you’ll act as the subject matter expert (SME) for configuration and change management, leading process improvements, supporting internal and external audits, and helping to shape the future of Ontic’s data management strategy. You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally, ensuring seamless communication and continual improvement across the function.
About You:
At Ontic, our culture is integral to making sure we enjoy our work and deliver for our customers. While we look for the right skillset, we’re also looking for someone who will thrive within our recognition and empowerment culture.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring experience in configuration and change management within an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a deep understanding of change control processes and standards (EIA-649, GEIA-HB-649, or MIL-STD-973). You’ll have proven experience leading a team, setting KPIs, and driving performance, alongside the ability to interpret engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, and control documents with a high level of accuracy.
Familiarity with PLM tools (ideally Windchill) and ERP systems is key, as is confidence working cross-functionally and managing complex technical data. A HNC/HND or higher qualification in an engineering discipline is preferred, and a CM2 qualification would be an advantage. Above all, you’ll bring excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.
