What you can expect as a Director of Safety Operations at West Star:
The Director of Safety Operations will provide leadership in the implementation of “Safety 24/7”, the company’s safety management system. Incumbent will manage team of six regional safety managers, provide safety management support and coaching to managers and operational personnel, ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and policies, develop and maintain safety training and promotion activities conduct safety investigations, and support ongoing positive safety culture evolution.
The position is full-time, with flexibility in location - preference will be given to applicants able to work at the following company locations: Ithaca, NY, Solon, OH, or airport locations HPN, TEB, MIV, LAS, PBI, DAL, GJT, ALN, CHA. Alternatively, consideration will be given to exceptionally well-qualified candidates to work at other locations, including remote. Frequent travel (estimated up to 50) is required for this position. The position will report to the Chief Safety and Quality Officer.
You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including the following:
- Lead team of 6 Regional Safety Manager supporting 3,100+ company personnel
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s “Safey 24/7” safety management system
- Develop safety training policies and content
- Conduct in-person and remote safety coaching and mentorship activities for senior management personnel
- Create and implement safety promotion materials and campaigns
- Write or review as necessary safety investigation reports and entries into the company’s safety reporting system, Vocus
- In coordination with the Chief Safety and Quality Officer, conduct periodic system analysis to gauge safety risk levels and effectiveness of existing safety risk controls
- Promote the collection, analysis, and sharing of safety information within the company and where appropriate, externally
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners and associations
- Other responsibilities as assigned
