Position Summary

 

The Director Product Management is responsible for Product Management and its associated processes globally. Supports all five of Parker’s major operating groups in a matrix format of dotted line resources.  This process directly addresses Profitable Organic Growth, a critical element of Parker’s overall Win Strategy and a major element of the Business Development Process. Critical metrics include Profitable Organic Growth (top line revenues), Product Vitality Index (the ratio of sales from Winovation products compared to total sales), and Simple by Design impact (savings in production costs attributed to applying the five principles to improve our operating efficiency on legacy products).

 

Duties include assessment and evaluation of performance at division, group, and corporate levels; ongoing evolution and development of process and attendant training for all personnel; identification and transfer of ‘best practices’ and ‘lessons learned’; direct and substantial involvement in improving all fundamental elements of Parker’s product management efforts (process, resource, infrastructure, and culture); working with senior leaders and executives at every level of the company to significantly improve on track record in achieving profitable organic growth, reducing emphasis on growth via acquisition; providing key leadership and support to divisions and groups in shifting Parker from being ‘technology driven’ to becoming ‘spanet driven’ with a much stronger balance of strategic and tactical behaviors.

 

Scope/ Supervision and Interaction:

Provides leadership and is responsible for matrix teams. Has regular and frequent interaction with executive and division functional managers; coordination across multiple groups, platforms, divisions, or sites. Position will report directly to the Corporate VP Revenue Optimization.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide strategic guidance and global leadership to Corporate, Group, Platform, and Division staff on the product management process, resources, and tools (to include New Product Blueprinting and Simple by Design and Parker Operating Protocol for part simplification)

  • Work closely with groups and divisions to define, manage, and monitor the Winovation portfolio and associated performance metrics around short- term and long-term growth and Product Vitality Index (PVI) goals

  • Coach and train the product management team via a matrix organization on the principles of POP focused on the area of part (product) simplification.  Provide visibility throughout the organization on part complexity along stated goals and progress toward achievement 

  • Ensure alignment and collaboration on the process and targets with commercial leaders to support the customer simplification portion of POP

  • Collaborate and align with the pricing leadership on list price setting and management based on competitive alignment premiums and value to maximize total margin $ generated. 

  • Coach and train key business leadership teams (group staff, general managers, spaneting, business development, and engineering teams) on the

  • Product Management process, resources, and tools. Emphasis on long term sustainability and building the internal acumen to allow proper balance of internal vs external hires. 

  • Define metrics and develop associated dashboards and reports that maximize the effectiveness of portfolio management, improving the company’s ability to identify, prioritize, and execute organic growth and product commercialization activities to improve both top-line and bottom-line business performance measures

    • Assist in corporate, group, platform, and division strategic planning and define/implement processes, resources, and tools that align with the company’s evolving organic growth objectives

  • Continuously benchspan and improve the product management process and effectiveness.

  • Develop, maintain, and distribute various training and communications materials as needed to keep the product management user base (team members, team leaders, process leaders / facilitators, gate keepers, et al) proficient in knowledge and skills and able to use the process to its intended organizational benefits. 

  • Coordinate and liaise with all pertinent functions as needed to improve on the quality and availability of business data, information, and analytics to keep improving on product management process metrics, dashboards, and reports and improve the attendant business decision making at all levels of the organization

  • Support other related initiatives as identified by the Corporate Marketing Leaders in support of improving processes and tools, working with other functions as necessary to define, develop, and implement support solutions. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) in Engineering, Science, Business, or related field, and extensive program management experience. Appropriate PMP certification required, typically required within 6 months of assignment

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the position typically acquired through eight or more years of increasingly responsible experience with distribution, OEM and afterspanet products and customers including three or more years of high-level program and customer management experience with significant revenue or scope of responsibility

  • Minimum 10-12 years direct experience in spaneting, sales or product management

  • Advanced, specialized knowledge of product management principles, processes, industry practices, regulations and policies. Proficiency in all appropriate corporate product management processes, phases, and tools. Has the ability to influence and develop solutions between resources who do not directly report to this position, and are spread across multiple groups and divisions

  • Accomplished at analyzing and interpreting complex processes, policies, standard works, and financial reports

  • Effectively communicates, presents information, and influences at all levels in the organization
