Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Experimental Assembly Technician will be to assemble and install aircraft parts and systems to support Product Development programs. The Product Development team is tasked with the development of new components and technologies intended for evaluation on next generation aircraft, thus, many of these parts are new designs that may require revisions and adjustments to determine the best way to assemble. The execution of these parts and assemblies may come from mental concepts, verbal instructions, hand sketch drawings, or blueprints. This role requires constant learning of new methods and the application of new industry technologies. The individual must be self-motivated, have a high degree of integrity, strong verbal skills, and be comfortable working with a highly diverse cross functional team. Candidates filling this role must excel in a team environment as well as be proficient enough to work independently and able to troubleshoot when problems arise. 

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Assemble parts using engineering drawings and specifications and verify accuracy of work using precision measuring instruments. 
  • Install components in aircraft.  
  • Fabricate of more complex details to both conceptual descriptions and engineering drawings  
  • Use more advanced tools such as sheet metal shear and box and pan brake, tubing benders, etc. 
  • Work from mental concepts, verbal instructions, hand-sketches, or blueprints. 
  • Follow JIRA instructions and interact with engineering. 
  • Able to select proper materials.  
  • Write squawks to call out deficiencies and discrepancies in Solumina. 
  • Install nut plates and correct hardware.  
  • Plan for future projects. 
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area. 
  • Use appropriate PPE, follow proper safety protocol, and minimize potential safety hazards.  
  • Communicate clearly with other technicians.  
  • Work efficiently in a team environment as well as independently.  

Qualifications

  • GED or High School degree required 
  • Minimum 3 years of direct industry experience. 
  • Strong creative mind that excels at solving problems and can successfully collaborate with a diverse team during the development of new technologies and designs. 
  • Possess a broad skillset used to assemble precision aircraft parts. 
  • Able to troubleshoot difficult assembly issues with engineering and give solutions. 
  • Able to work projects start to finish with little direction. 
  • Knowledge of fabrication tools and processes, including proper use of hand tools drills, drill press, saws. 
  • Solid understanding of drawings and prints, as well as use of Solumina and JIRA 
  • Possess a solid understanding of general airplane architecture including airframe, powerplant, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems 
  • Good understanding of Cirrus Specifications and aircraft hardware. 
  • Basic knowledge of machining and welding  
  • Possess a broad skillset used to assemble precision aircraft parts 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willing to learn new skills.
