Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is looking for you to join our team as an Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Battle Command System (IBCS) Staff Chief Engineer in Huntsville, AL. IBCS integrates disparate radars and weapons to construct a far more effective IAMD enterprise. IBCS delivers a single integrated air picture with unprecedented accuracy and broadens surveillance and protection areas.
As an IBCS Staff Chief Engineer, you will direct a team that designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs application software and its associated automated test equipment. Your team may conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product software. You will direct the IBCS teams in determining user needs; analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; preparing operating instructions; designing and developing compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide the technical direction and architecture definition for the IBCS
- Serve as technical lead cross-functional teams of high-performing engineers developing advanced systems designs and concepts.
- Direct Team leads to ensure program objectives, technical requirements, and schedule are met
- Interfacing with the design and implementation engineers’ architects and government product owners to ensure that robust and compliant designs are developed
- Provide the technical direction for a high visibility program and assist with targeted
- Work with the Scrum Teams to ensure that the overall system implementation meets the requirements for performance, scalability, standardization, etc.
- Communicate key architectural design aspects that are relevant on each Sprint to Scrum teams
- Participate in selection of specific stories for each Release to ensure that critical architectural design features are implemented and tested early in the development lifecycle
- Coordinate product releases with the Customer.
- Assist the Product Owners refine the Product Backlog as necessary
Minimum Qualifications:
- 12 years with Bachelor of Science; 10 Years with Masters; 7 Years with PhD. Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics
- Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness and ability to make sound technical judgements with limited information
- Experience engineering and/or integrating software components and technologies relative to Weapon Systems, Sensors, C2 Systems and/or networks in large distributed military (US/NATO) operational environments
- Experience in architecture development for network-centric, software intensive DoD systems
- Experience in aerial defense weapon systems and/or network engineering in a large, distributed environment with emphasis on military (US/NATO) operations
- Familiarity with modern information systems, including computer hardware, data storage, and network and distributed systems
- Current active Secret clearance required to start
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of Integrated Air and Missile Defense systems
- Sensor and Effector Domain Knowledge as it relates to Battle Management Systems
- Familiarity with Operational Analysis and CONOPS development
- IBCS experience
- International (FMS) experience
- Experience working with multi domain security
- Experience operating complex data fusion systems, RF hardware, and relevant base defense weapon systems
- Experience with software coding & development in relevant programs
- Licensed training/certification or experience in a related field of servicing counter threat weapon systems
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Experience with Model-Based System Engineering (CAMEO)
Salary Range: $163,200 - $244,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
