Job Description SummaryThe Services Maintenance Cost Modeling Engineer will support the development of Time On Wing (TOW) Models for our engines and Maintenance Cost Models in support of Customized Service Agreements (CSA). You will use existing data, physics-based insights, analytics, and probabilistic modeling to forecast future shop visit costs and frequencies, as well as perform study runs of the models to identify risks and opportunities for the business. These forecasts directly impact the profitability of the services P&L and provide an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding of the intersection of technical product performance and business performance.

As part of this job, you will enhance services modeling by integrating customer data, capturing engines/products reliability, maintenance, and other performance parameters. You will impact approaches, projects, and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the technical modeling (Cost and/or Time On Wing) for existing engine product lines.
  • Develop an in depth understanding of technical and business drivers that impact product profitability and use this knowledge to develop more accurate and operational technical models.
  • Apply skills in data analysis, probabilistic modeling, and general problem solving as needed in execution of daily tasks.
  • Support department LEAN process improvement efforts.
  • Work closely with Product Line, Customized Service Agreement Operation, Finance, Systems Engineering, Life Cycle Engineering, Customer Facing (CTP & CPM), Maintenance Shop, and Services Controllership functions to identify key Fleet Model inputs/improvements and integrate into Fleet Models.

Additionally:

  • Perform in depth studies, as required, in support of business activities related to new customer service deals, existing customer service contract performance, business cases, component re-design, repair development, commercial actions, and general Fleet Model process improvements.
  • Prepare and present technical data and obtain General Manager level approval of updated Fleet Models and studies.
  • Assure proper documentation of Fleet Model data consistent with engineering policies.
  • Develop specialized knowledge in the discipline. Serve as best practice/quality resource. Have awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contribute towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Take new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explain difficult or sensitive information; work to build consensus. Develop persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Services/Installed Base Engineering

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Prior experience in any of the following: CTP, systems engineering, engine performance, cost modeling, component durability, Maintenance/Repair/Overhaul shop cost, Customized Service Agreement accounting, and/or other related disciplines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Established project management skills
