Position Summary
Materials Engineer Intern, for elastomeric (rubber) compounds (minor focus on plastics, metals, composites, etc.) for components/systems of various scope and complexity used as seals, diaphragms, isolators, boots, etc. in various spanets with a concentration on Off Highway, Heavy Duty, and Automotive. Understanding of analytical techniques is desired to conduct physical tests on chemicals and elastomers.
Responsibilities
- Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.
- Perform analytical testing of rubber compounds and products.
- Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment or processes, or to develop applications of findings for customers.
- Analyzes and interprets test data to prepare technical reports for use by engineering or management for planning and spaneting personnel in sales and technical services activities.
- Assists in developing new elastomeric compounds in all polymer families for various applications.
- Reviews drawings/prints to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function and conformity to standards, procedures and specifications.
- Supports production mixing and molding operations.
- Communicates with suppliers of material, components, molds, equipment, etc.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities.
