Job Description:

Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Long-term Intern to join our Flight Test Engineering Team based in Grand Prairie, TX.

You will be part of a team providing instrumentation, flight test, data analysis, reporting, for developmental, certification and production activities. The Data Analysis and Reporting function spans the technical knowledge of helicopter mechanical and electrical systems, equipment specifications, certification requirements, definition of instrumentation requirements, test planning, data reduction and analysis including modelling, and reporting.

A suburb just outside the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area is home to Airbus Helicopters U.S. regional headquarters, where we have more than 1,000 employees. Your Challenges:

1. Learn flight testing basics: 10

  • Flight test process: Test requirements, specifications, instrumentation, test, data reduction and analysis, reporting
  • Helicopter fundamentals: architecture, performance, flight characteristics, electronic systems
  • Defining instrumentation requirements, basic flight test instrumentation systems
  • Documentation: FT plan, FTI plan, FT Report, Data archiving and retrieving

2. Gain familiarity with technical documents used in the aerospace industry: 10

  • Flight manuals and supplements
  • Technical standards (RTCA, SAE)
  • Certification agency (FAA/EASA): Rules, Advisories, Orders, TSO, Policies

3. Apply Airbus data analysis tools: 50

  • Extract / SANDRA: extraction, visualization, elaborated parameters,
  • MdiSdeRead, Viewer, WinSpoGA,
  • Analysis: Environmental (vibration, temperature, electro-magnetic), performance, flight characteristics

4. Practice technical writing and communication skills: 30

  • Flight Test Plan,
  • Flight Test Report,
  • Technical presentation

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Boarding Pass:

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, or graduate, degree program in Science / Engineering: Aerospace, Physics, Thermodynamics, Mechanical, Electrical, Applied mathematics, Computational Engineering
  • Currently located and attending school in the DFW metro area
  • Must be well organized and have good time management skills
  • Ability to research a subject, formulate a problem and solving strategy, critical thinking are required
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form
  • Requires use of computer and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication skills are required as daily interactions occur with internal customers, external customers, support departments, and peers
Preferred:
  • Data analysis and modelling software experience is desirable
  • Exposure to Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is desirable
  • Basic French reading skills are desirable.
  • MATLAB, Python, VBA proficiency

Physical Requirements:
  • Onsite: 100 of time that this position must be worked onsite at the company’s location.
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment, as well as electronic test equipment
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
