Flight Test EngineerJob Description Summary
We are looking for a skilled Flight Test Engineer to join our team in Sandpoint, Idaho. In this critical role, you will serve as a technical and functional expert responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing flight tests to ensure aircraft and systems meet company performance standards and comply with regulatory requirements, including those outlined in 14 CFR Part 23 or other applicable regulations.Job description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze proposed projects from a flight test perspective to determine potential flight test requirements.
- Provide an operator’s / pilot’s perspective on all aspects of the aircraft to help identify enhancing characteristics of a design, or, if necessary, to identify any potential design deficiencies and to offer potential, practical solutions to their correction
- Work closely with aircraft mechanics, operators, and potential customers
- Must work closely with the pilot team and other subject matter experts to ensure the best solution can be achieved given the project scope, budget, and schedule
- Coordinate instrumentation and flight data collection equipment installation and operation
- Collect, process, and maintain flight test data
- Flight test planning
- Flight test risk analysis and mitigation planning
- Flight test execution
- Flight test reporting
- Aircraft operations – scheduling, execution, and long-range planning
- Project management
- Human Machine Interface (HMI) analysis and testing
- Aircraft Systems Testing
- Interface with outside agencies and other Flight Test professionals
- Work within an Engineering Team
REQUIREMENTS:
- Engineering degree (required)
- Advanced engineering degree, or equivalent experience in a flight test engineering role
- Graduate of an internationally recognized test pilot school (long course preferred)
- At least 3-years’ flight test experience
- Must be able to perform in a dynamic environment during flight test, including periods of accelerated-g, extended periods airborne, extremes of hot and cold weather
- Must have an understanding of aerodynamics, aircraft performance, stability and control, and flight systems
- Experience with regulatory agencies
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
(Additional Qualification - preferred)
- Pilot’s license
- FAA Medical
- Pilot-in-command time in a turbine-powered aircraft
